Organic Colombia Ocamonte Santander comes to us from our friends at Royal Coffee in Emeryville, CA. The coffee was sourced from families the town of Santander, in the Ocamonte municipality. Asociación de Pequeños Caficultores de Ocamonte (APCO), the families who produce Castillo because of it's natural resistance to the Roya fungus. Royal has this to say of APCO:
“COLOMBIA FTO OCAMONTE SANTANDER GRAINPRO is sourced from the Asociación de Pequeños Caficultores de Ocamonte (APCO). APCO consists of about 270 families from the municipality of Ocamonte in the department of Santander, Colombia. Members of APCO currently cultivate a coffee varietal called Castillo. The National Federation of the Coffee Growers of Colombia commissioned the development of this coffee variety, Castillo, because it is more resistant to Roya (coffee rust). This helped to increase both the national harvest and the quality of the coffee beans. Because coffee is such a huge export, a lot of work has been done at the government level to ensure a continuous supply and a quality product.”
On the cupping table, this coffee blew us away with its balanced notes of chocolate, orange and vanilla, as well as its soft, round body. Equal parts familiar and adventurous, this medium roast performs well in most brewing methods, but shines as a filtered drip coffee.
Exceedingly well rounded and consistently delicious, this is our new all day drinking coffee. We can’t wait for you to try it.
