Organic Brazil Matas de Minas Klem comes to us from our friends at Royal Coffee in Emeryville, CA. Grown in the mountainous Minas Gerais region of southwestern Brazil, this naturally processed coffee comes from the estate of the Klem family, a multi-generational farming operation. Royal has this to say about the Klem family and their estate:

“[Brazil Organic Matas de Minas Natural Klem] is sourced from the Klem family estates in the Matas de Minas growing region near the city of Luisburgo within the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The Klem estates were established in the 1950s by Nagipe Viana Klem. Today Nagipe’s four sons manage the estates along with 50 partner/families that work on the estates and share in the profits. The coffee is cultivated along with bananas and avocados to ensure ecological and income diversity. The Klem family’s reputation for producing quality coffee has been recognized in a number of cupping competitions including a third-place finish in the 2017 Brazil Cup of Excellence.”

On the cupping table, the coffee impressed us with a delicious profile of milk chocolate and almond, paired with a wonderfully round body and smoothly textured finish. A classic example of why we love Brazilian naturals, this medium roast is extremely versatile, and excels in a wide variety of brewing methods, particularly filtered drip, French press, and espresso. If you’re looking for a cup that’s low-toned and balanced, this is your huckleberry. We’re excited to have this coffee around, and we can’t wait for you to check it out.
